Bosnian girls apply lipstick and make-up to raise their spirits during shelling. During the 47 months between the spring of 1992 and February 1996, the people of Sarajevo endured the longest siege Europe has witnessed since the end of the Second World War. More than 10,600 people were killed with a further 56,000 wounded or maimed.
